redwood city to fremont and san jose this morning. a little bit of fog. otherwise we are just on our way to a rapid warmup today. possible records tomorrow and tuesday. then the bottom falls out after that. here comes the warming trend. it's high pressure that builds into the upper layer surface and the upper layers of the atmosphere. what that means is that flow turns slightly offshore. more of a northerly flow so the down sloping winds allowing for rapid warming today with some 80s possible. look it, it's a state-wide event with 84 in los angeles, 80 down by san diego and look at big sur, 80s on the coast. we are talking another five to seven degrees of warming tomorrow into tuesday. so that should take us about 15 to 20 degrees above normal by the time we hit election day. but i think tomorrow should be the warmest day of the work week. so average highs mid-60s here. talking 74 in san francisco, 677 oakland. san jose we have low 80s up toward the north in santa rosa, 80 for concord, livermore. half moon bay 68 and down by the monterey bay, santa cruz, 80 degrees today. 81 hollister. e

, vic. >>> joining us with analysis is melinda jackson of san jose state. she is an associate professor of political science and research director for the survey and policy research institute at san jose state. >> her areas of interest are public opinion, civic engagement and political participation. she is also an expert in polling. let's talk about the polls. pretty much dead on accurate. no real surprises tonight at all, right? >> that's right. everything we have seen tonight was predicted by the polls. so despite some doubts that were raised in the last few weeks, the polls performed very well this year. >> what does that say about polling? is it an accurate process? >> the challenges have gotten much more severe in the last two years. fewer and fewer people are picking up the phone and answering these polls. more people have a cell phone and they are harder to reach. but the polling world is adapting to those changes, and as we can see we have a real election to compare it to and they were right on this year. >> it seemed like the obama campaign was really dialed into all of this.
in livermore, concord, 45 in san jose and you will notice low 50s around half moon bay. the high clouds and patches of fog. we are watching the clouds as you look at the satellite and radar. we have high pressure that will provide us with dry weather for a couple more days. but there is a storm developing far offshore, and this is the system that will bring our first possibility of rain. we will just see the high clouds tomorrow. another mild day. in the upper 60s to low 70s. then the clouds will begin to thicken. there could be a little drizzle developing around the monterey bay. the rain arrives on friday and snow is expected in the mountains and mixing in with rain as early as friday. here are the ski resorts opening as soon as tomorrow. heavenly, they are both opening tomorrow. squaw valley and alpine meadows opening this coming friday. initially the snow levels are going to be very high around 6500 feet with the next couple systems. but the snow level is dropping down 5,000 feet as we head to the latter part of the weekend. they will certainly be getting fresh powder. look at these
